Back in the Top 10

Nihao !!!!!

I just got back to Puerto Rico from Jiayuguan, China where I competed at the Jiayuguan Triathlon World Cup. After a two day trip to China I was ready to compete again against some of the top athletes in the world.  This was my 4th trip to China in my career and the biggest set back for me was the food. But I guess when the Chinese athletes travel abroad they experience the same thing so on my next trip there I will be traveling with a lot of peanut butter and cereal.

The swim was in a man made lake and a huge group came out of the water together, I was on the tail of it and was able to bridge up by the end of the first lap of the bike.  The bike part was a bit slow, wide roads and completely flat made it for a tactical bike ride and pretty much everyone waited for the run. Once we got to the run I started very conservative since Jiayuguan its at 1600 meters above sea level and Ive been training in Puerto Rico 0 meters above sea level I knew that I needed to pace myself the best I could to be able to finish in a good position and not blow up half way of the run. I ended up in 10th and earned very good points towards the Rio 2016 Games and as it right now I hold one of those Olympic spots for Puerto Rico I now have to defend that spot as the Olympic qualification process continues.

After the race I got to visit the Great Wall of China with some of the Team ITU Development Athletes.  I would also like to thank Team ITU and its coaches for providing us with some great support through out the week there.
